The TEAM
MARK YARCHOAN
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
Dr. Yarchoan received his undergraduate degree from Amherst College, his M.D. at the University of Pennsylvania, residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Medical Oncology Fellowship training at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Yarchoan's postdoctoral research was with Dr. Elizabeth Jaffee, and his clinical research training was with Drs. Nilo Azad and Daniel Laheru. Dr. Yarchoan is interested in developing novel immunotherapies for hepatobiliary cancers. His extracurricular activities include backpacking, growing tomatoes, and playing with his kids.
James Leatherman
LAB MANAGER
James has been a long time staple on the 4th floor of CRB-1, (est 2005). His first bench job was at LIMR under the guidance of Dr. James Mullin. He came to Baltimore to continue his skill development under Dr. Leisha Emens. He joined Dr. Yarchoan and Dr. Azad in 2018. He considers Baltimore his home and this little, big, city as a great opportunity. He prides himself of being a leader for new members, and a trusted hand for anyone who needs it. James longs for the days of returning to the paintball fields and tries to bring a relaxed and fun atmosphere to the lab.
LUCIANE KAGOHARA
RESEARCH COLLABORATOR
I am a molecular and computational biologist hybrid. My interests are focused on identifying cancer/testis antigens that would potentially result in new immunotherapies for pancreatic cancer and how epigenetic modulators can increase immunotherapies efficacy. I will pursue this applying gold-standard immune-assays combined with highly innovative single cell and spatial/imaging approaches allowing specific cell types identification, as well as characterization of cell-cell interactions that play a role in tumor immune response.
Tamara Lopez-VIdal
RESEARCH TECHNOLOGIST
Tamara is a Research Technologist within the lab. She received her Biomedical Sciences B.S. from the University of Westminster and Infection & Immunity M.S. from University College London prior to joining the Yarchoan Lab. She’s particularly interested in cancer immunotherapies and mechanisms driving tumors pathogenesis. Extracurricular interests include: traveling and attempting to cook.
Daniel Zabransky
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW
Dan received his undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary, his MD and PhD from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, completed residency in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and is currently a medical oncology fellow at Johns Hopkins. He is interested in better understanding the crosstalk between cancer cells and fibroblasts in GI cancers. He enjoys discovering new music and spending time with his family.
Daniel Shu
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW
Prior to becoming a physician, Dan lived on a ranch for two years as a student at Deep Springs College, received a B.A. in Classics from the University of Pennsylvania, and completed an M.A. in Ancient Greek and Latin at the University of California at Berkeley. He received his M.D. from Temple University and completed internship and residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and is a current medical oncology fellow at Johns Hopkins. He is interested in understanding mechanisms of response to immunotherapy. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and exploring the playgrounds and museums of Baltimore.
